WEBB DOCK, PORT MELBOURNE, SHUT DOWN: END ALL TRADE WITH ISRAEL

BREAKING: For the second time this month, anti-genocide activists have blocked the passage of container trucks in and out of VICT, Webb Dock, Webb Dock Drive, Port Melbourne.

The entrance to VICT port has been blockaded preventing the movement of container trucks in and out of the Webb Dock. Trucks carrying Zim, Maersk, MSC and Toll containers are log jammed along Webb Dock Drive backing up to Todd Rd. No containers will be transported to and from the VICT Webb Dock today.

Activists, wearing red suits emblazoned with “WE ARE ALL PALESTINE ACTION”, are currently “locked-on” to giant metal tripods in the driveways of the dock. Vehicles are blocking the road in front of the gates. One of the vehicles, a “dragon” car, is immobilised with activists “locked-on” to it. Banners are attached to the surrounding gates, walls and the vehicles.

Palestinian flags are flying above the scene, the banners read:

‘END ALL TRADE WITH I$RAEL’

’SANCTION I$RAEL NOW’

’STOP ARMING I$RAEL’

‘END THE GENOCIDE’

The activists’ red overalls, adorned with patches that read ‘WE ARE ALL PALESTINE ACTION’, are worn in solidarity with UK Palestine Action activists and supporters who have been arrested and jailed under repressive state Terrorism laws. These laws have been unjustly used in an attempt to silence people of good conscience who refuse to be bystanders to genocide.

Resistance is not terrorism.

The activists are taking this action ‘A PEOPLE’S EMBARGO’ to halt the flow of trade that enables and supports the genocide being perpetrated by Israel in the Occupied Territories of Palestine. Despite support for sanctions against Israel by the majority of the Australian public, the Australian government has failed to act in any meaningful way. Statements and promises to recognise the Palestinian state are meaningless without action to force the Israeli government to end the siege on Gaza and the deliberate starvation of the Palestinian people.

Spokesperson Wilkarr kurikuta said:

“I’m a ngemba/gomeroi/Wangan and jagalingoua man standing in solidarity with the Palestinians to tell the Australian government to stop supporting Israel.”

Spokesperson Emma said:

I am taking part in this action on the stolen land and water of the Boonwurrung people, where the rivers were detonated and the First Peoples massacred. The colony is interested in profit and power, which is in direct contradiction to a future where safety and wellbeing for all is a possibility. I am blocking one of the biggest ports in Australia because I know direct action is the only way meaningful change is going to happen in this country.”

The activists vow to continue to disrupt the flow of goods from Australia to Israel. In the absence of tangible and impactful sanctions and embargoes by the Australian government that would pressure the Israeli government to end the siege on Gaza, the people will act. We refuse to be complicit in genocide.

In order to break the siege of Gaza, to effect the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid, and to prevent the rapidly advancing annexation of occupied Palestinian lands, the Australian and other so-called governments of “western democracy” must cut all diplomatic, economic and military ties with Israel. Sanction Israel now!

FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA, PALESTINE WILL BE FREE
